Orientation & Mobility Specialist (O&M) –Travel or Relocation Opportunity (Maryland)
Position: Orientation & Mobility Specialist (O&M)
Position Location: Maryland (Baltimore & surrounding areas)
Travel or relocation required —ideal for candidates currently based in Texas or other high-density O&M regions
Schedule: Full-Time or Part-Time (flexible options available)
Start Date: ASAP (rolling interviews)
Pay: Competitive hourly rates —negotiable based on experience and travel/relocation

Compensation Note:
The rate currently on file reflects local Maryland candidates. As we are actively opening this role to traveling and relocating providers, we are willing to negotiate a higher rate for the right experience.

Position Overview
Phaxis Education is actively hiring an Orientation & Mobility Specialist (O&M) to support students who are blind or have low vision across Baltimore and surrounding Maryland areas.

This role focuses on helping students develop the skills and confidence needed for safe, independent travel in school, community, home, and job-site environments.

Services are typically delivered 1: 1 and may be scheduled flexibly based on student needs and provider availability, including daytime and potential evening scheduling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized Orientation & Mobility instruction to students with visual impairments

  • Teach safe travel skills across multiple environments (school campus, community, public transportation, etc.)

  • Instruct students in:

    • Orientation skills & environmental awareness

    • Spatial concepts and concept development

    • Sighted guide techniques

    • Functional use of vision

    • Long cane travel

  • Collaborate with special education teams, educators, and related service providers

  • Maintain accurate documentation and progress notes aligned with service goals and IEPs

Requirements

  • Certification/credentials as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist (O&M)

  • Experience working with children and/or students who are blind or have low vision (preferred)

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in the field

  • Willingness to travel or relocate to Maryland for assignment
