Position: Orientation & Mobility Specialist (O&M)
Location: Baltimore, MD + surrounding areas
Schedule: Full-Time or Part-Time (flexible options available)
Start Date: ASAP (rolling interviews)
Pay: Competitive hourly rates —negotiable based on experience
Position Overview
Phaxis Education is actively hiring an Orientation & Mobility Specialist (O&M) to support students who are blind or have low vision across Baltimore and surrounding areas. This position focuses on helping students develop the skills and confidence needed for safe, independent travel in school, community, home, and job-site environments.

Services are typically delivered 1: 1 and can be scheduled with flexibility depending on student needs and provider availability (including daytime and potential evening scheduling).
Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized O&M instruction to students with visual impairments

  • Teach safe travel skills across multiple environments (campus, community, public transportation, etc.)

  • Train students in:

    • Orientation skills & environmental awareness

    • Spatial concepts and concept development

    • Sighted guide techniques

    • Functional use of vision

    • Long cane travel

  • Collaborate with educators and related service teams

  • Maintain documentation and progress notes aligned to service goals
Requirements

  • Certification/credentials as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist

  • Experience working with children and/or students who are blind/low vision preferred

  • Strong communication + ability to work independently in the field
